Thanks to the good folks at Indiegogo, we now have our fundraising site up and running.
We need to raise at least another $10,000 and every single donation helps ,be it one dollar or 100. Our first donor got us 0.15% of the way to our goal this afternoon. Thank you our anonymous friend! Pop on on over to our Indiegogo page and take a peek. If you cannot make a donation right now you can still help by spreading the word and sharing our page. The more folks that see it the better! Prior to starting this drive we have raised $1,440 in donations and shirt sales so the trip fund is off to a good start. Jim and Lorry Vassar of Chicago have the distinction of being our very first donors way back in 2013. Thank you guys and we are looking forward to seeing you both when we reach Chicago! We just got in a batch of these spiffy new Euro style oval stickers. They are printed on vinyl with UV resistant inks and are a perfect way to let the world know that you are one of those rare souls fortunate enough to have ridden Vlad the unicorn. Decorate your car, slap one on your computer or notebook, stick one to the front of your kilt and call it a sporran--the uses are limited only by your imagination!
These stickers are 4x6 and can be yours for $4 each. Even better, shipping is the princely sum of zip, zilch, nada, zero...FREE! We are using the proceeds from all sticker sales this year towards funding this trip, along with proceeds from our Rock On shirts. We hope to raise far more than the actual travel costs of the trip so that we have a hefty donation for the Shriner's upon arriving back home in late September. Our first big step in funding this trip got off to a great start.
Tonight the launching promotion for our Keep Calm and Rock on shirts came to a very successful conclusion. I am delighted to report that we exceeded our goal of 50 shirts, selling a total of 33 shirts and raising $674 for our travel expenses. We are extremely grateful for the support of everyone who bought a shirt (and in several cases, multiple shirts) and who helped get the word out. The shirts should arrive around July 4th and we can't wait to be inundated with pictures of folks wearing them. You all rock in a very big way! As of today, we have sold 27 of our Rock On shirts! The initial goal was to sell 50 of them, so we are a bit over halfway there with a week to go in the promotion. I'm hoping we'll blow right on past 50 and swamp the printing company with a massive order. Huge thank you's go out to every single one of you that has rallied to the cause. We can't do this without your support.
If you've not yet nabbed your shirt, head on over to our fundraiser page and get in on the fun! We've got shirts going as far away as Australia. If you are over the pond and want a shirt, just contact Katlinel the Rockinghorsegal. She'll take your order and ship your shirt out anywhere in the world. We have what we think are the coolest logo shirts ever. They are available for a limited time at Booster.com and the proceeds will go to our soon to launch charity tour. We are aiming high and hoping to raise $25,000 so that at the end of the tour we have a hefty amount left over to donate to the Shriners. Get yours hot of the presses! Our trip is getting an early start. Vlad is doing what he does best at a yard sale held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lopez in Bakersfield. All the proceeds of the yard sale and of any donations given for rides will be donated to the Bakersfield Ronald McDonald House. You can't miss us, just look for an enormous unicorn on Myrtle street!

Llewellyn, PA September 2nd We rock for the Good Intent Hose Company #1 to help them raise funds for a new squad truck. Hershey, PA September 6th Yippee! Today we rock for the benefit of the Ronald McDonald house in the chocolate scented town of Hershey. Barre, VT September 7th Come for a unicorn ride after Sunday services at the Barre Unitarian Universalist church! We love doing this! My personal pet charity is the Shriner's Hospitals. I grew up attending the Shriner circuses and enjoying their miniature cars in parades. As an adult I learnt about the work they do providing no cost care to children with burns or orthopedic issues--I never dreamt that my child would need their services. As fate would have it, my daughter needed orthopedic care for two different issues as she grew up and the Shriners were our personal blessing.
As the Rockinghorse couple, one of our greatest joys is to lift someone from their wheelchair and put them on one of the horses for a ride. Their responses are pure magic. If we need to stand on the rockers or if I need to ride with them to act as a human seatbelt in order to make a ride possible, it will happen with great pleasure. These rides are the ones that keep us going through the long hours and hard work that come with each and every event. This trip is to bring that special joy to a wider range of people. It is our gift to you and a chance to thank the warm and giving staff and volunteers of these organizations. Starting in August of 2014, we will travel across the US and up into Canada, stopping in 25 towns and cities over 43 days. We leave from San Francisco California and will finish the trip in Montpelier Vermont in mid September. Along the way we will stop and give free rides to the clientele, staff and volunteers of children's hospitals, organizations for wounded vets, charities for the blind, those with autism and those with Down's syndrome. We are collecting donations to cover the expenses of the trip, but want to do more than this, so any donations over our travel costs will be donated to the Shriner's Hospitals. Since we want to make a large donation we have set a high goal of $25,000. All donations are going into a dedicated savings account and once the trip commences we will keep a detailed log of actual expenses for an expense report after the trip. We will have a crowdfunding page up soon and will link it here. In the interim, any direct donations are being held in their own dedicated savings account. We thank each and every one of you that is helping to make this trip possible! |
